Neo/Abstract expressionism
Abstract expressionism on the other hand was originating in New York being post WW2 art in the 1940's. It was the first American art movement to gain international interest. Neo expressionism started somewhere in the late 1970's and went into the 1980's. Neo expressionism was a continuation of its counterpart, abstract expressionism. Neo expressionism focused more on recognizable objects. To paint the artists used a lot of vivid colors and a few abstractions to the figures done. Neo expressionist painters were sometimes considered as the new Fauves. The origin of this movement was German.
