Surrealism began in the 1920’s and the artists focused on making weird scenes that were very realistic. Surrealism is a follow up of the Dada art movement. Paris was important in surrealism. The leader of this movement was André Breton. Sigmund Freud’s works with dreams had a huge impact on the art and culture of surrealism. The word “surreal” was thought up by a critic called Guillaume Apollinaire. Surrealism never died it just became different styles of art. Famous artists were Max Ernst, Jean Arp, and Salvador Dali.
